DA Facilitators News 12/18/21

 •  Please fill this Doodle poll in order to choose the day for the next facilitators general meeting (the first one in the 2022). The timeslot is suitable for Europe, Asia, Australia, and Western Americas. It will be two hours including a little celebration process. Please contact Igor if you are ready to host or cohost it ; )

•   We are happy to announce that “the Art of Listening” training with Katie Carr will happen between 9-11am UTC every Friday from January 14 to February 11. Check your start time here: https://everytimezone.com/s/cda0fbf4

This five week course will explore the lost art of deep listening, and is intended to support DA facilitators to deepen their skills and build their confidence in hosting ‘Deep Listening’ gatherings.

Deep Listening was the first hosted process within the DA Forum, offered on a weekly basis in different timezones. Some of you here were part of the original team of facilitators who offered this practice on a regular basis to members of the big DA Facebook group. You can read more about the principles of DA Gatherings here, and about the Deep Listening format here.

Previously, ‘training’ for facilitators involved participating in Deep Listening gatherings, becoming familiar with the format, before hosting or cohosting online. With this new training, you will be supported to explore more deeply the art of listening, in order to fully embody the principles and practice of deep listening.

   FB event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1158564797883635

There are 23 places in the group.

It is also open to other members of the DAF volunteer community. We are welcoming people that are interested in DA Facilitation in general and in hosting Deep Listening processes in their communities and/or in DAF spaces.

This training will be offered on a ‘pay what you can’ basis. Participants are not required to commit to hosting Deep Listening gatherings in the future, but we hope that some will choose to join our team of volunteers so that we can re-launch regular and ongoing events for members of the DA Facebook group.

This programme will be offered again at times suitable for participants in the Americas.

  • DAF 2022 Global Countdown: Party like there's no tomorrow!

As things fall apart… How about a 24-hour New Year party?

On Dec.31, 2021, from midnight in the Line Islands (time zone UTC+14) to midnight in Niue (UTC-11), and every time zone in between, all participants in the Deep Adaptation Forum are invited to get together, have a drink, play some music, share what they're up to, and find out about what others are doing.

A Zoom call will be ongoing for this whole length of time. Anyone will be free to drop in at any time, and for any length of time, to connect with anyone else in the space. This event will also enable the various circles, task groups, crews and teams that exist around the DAF ecosystem to share (on an online slidedeck) a brief overview of what they're up to, who's in already... and perhaps invite others to join the fun?!

Check out this document to find out about the various ways you can join - be it as a party animal, a DJ, and/or a sharer!

  • New Events Calendar System in Use

Starting in January, new events will not be added as events in the Facebook Deep Adaptation group.  The new events calendar, deepadaptation.info/events, will take its place to share event info in that Facebook group.  The deepadaptation.ning.com/events system is also still in use for now. Advantages of the new system include:

  • A monthly calendar layout that makes it easy to read and find the events of your choice,

  • Ability to see list view and recurring events list view,

  • Short description in list view can be edited separately from main description,

  • Event creator and event hosts can be different; event host contact info can be listed in a secure way,

  • There is no “going” function to confuse people,

  • Links to events can be shared with people who do not use Facebook or who are not Ning members.

At some point (hopefully soon), hosts will be able to create their own events in this system.  Terry will still happily take your feedback and regrets the inability to display events in the user’s local time zone.

DA Facilitators News 11/29/21

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the next “DA Facilitators General Meeting”, where we’ll connect with each other, share news and discuss some important topics!

We will meet on the 4st of December 19:00-20.30 UTC / UK (you can find your time here:https://www.facebook.com/events/382724610266274)
     The agenda known for now:
  • Facilitated processes for young people facing eco grief and climate tragedy anxiety
  • DA Facilitation and conflict resolution
  • The new events system and calendar feedback
  • DA Facilitation Practice, part one: Deep Listening
  • Paid vs free events
  • DA Facilitators and Guides--possible synergy and collaboration
  • News and announcements shared by you
  • Questions and answers
If you have something to propose for the agenda in advance, please write back or add your proposals to the FB event page.
Please contact Igor if you are ready to be a co-host or a host of this meeting. This time it will be a little shorter (1.5 hours). You can find brief results of the last meeting here. The brief results of this meeting will be there as well.

Deep Live Gathering was an experimental multilocal 7-day event in October. Now it is time to reflect on this blended (offline/online) format and on the event itself. After the Conscious Learning session about it Dorian Cave wrote a blog post. Please feel free to add your thoughts, reflections and feedback as comments to this post.

Deep Relating opportunities: Deep Relating is a core process for the DA Facilitators.  We are getting ready to offer an initiation and practice program for new and continuing DA facilitators in January.  Getting familiar with practicing Deep Relating is a great way to get ready for that program. Advance registration is required.  Scheduled Deep Relating sessions in December are here and here.

Stewarding in the Deep Adaptation Forum: Weaving stronger links between us, and taking better care of one another – a note from Dorian CavĂ©.
Research shows that networks and organizations that place "care work" front and center tend to thrive, and to be much more resilient in the face of challenges both internal - such as conflict - or external - such as unfriendly media campaigns.
We have started experimenting in DAF with things like Mutual Care circles - for which we have received a lot of positive feedback. But such circles tend to only be attended by a small number of people. How about going a little further in working on weaving more mutual care among us in the network?
So here is a proposal to more systematically distribute the work of caring for each other in DAF. This proposal relies on a peer support system, used in the Loomio Cooperative and other places. Read more about it here.
Are you feeling curious? Then join the experiment!
Here are the parameters we (in core team) would like to propose:
  • We will experiment with a Stewardship system for 6 months, from December 1, 2021 to June 1, 2022.
  • Any active participant in DAF is welcome to join before December 1.
  • Every participant will be randomly paired with two other participants. One of these will be their Steward, and the other will be their Stewardee. Two people can't both be each other's stewards.
  • Each participant is encouraged to meet one-to-one with their steward about once a month.
  • Every stewarding relationship is different. Steward and stewardee are encouraged to work out the kind of support and the approach that works best for the stewardee.
  • Participants can steward more than one person at a time, but we try to spread the load evenly.
  • After the end of the 6-month period, participants will be invited to a retrospective to decide on whether the practice should continue, and if so, how to extend it.
To take part in this experiment, please add your name and email to this spreadsheet, before Dec.1.

All DA facilitators, prospective facilitators, and other volunteers are welcome to the following events:
Mutual Care Circle, a space for deeply (re)connecting with one another and being in community, as active participants in the DAF ecosystem. Two different meetings take place each month:

Welcoming Circle - last Tuesday of every month, 16:00-17:30 UTC+0. Next call: Nov.30 (check your local time). Zoom link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88084812697

DAF Coffee Shop, a place for restorative conversation with like-minded friends. Every Wednesday 12:00-1:00 am UTC. Next events on Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Dec. 21, and Dec. 28. Details here.
